Vintage Akari lamp designed by Isamu Noguchi. The timeless Noguchi design provides a sculptural form as well as a warm glowing source of light. Akari model 3 X light sculpture by Isamu Noguchi. The shade is made from handmade rice Mino washi paper, bamboo ribs and enameled metal. Retains original sun/moon stamp. Akari light sculptures by Isamu Noguchi are considered icons of 1950s modern design. Designed by Noguchi in the 1950s, this vintage example is from a later production run that was still largely handmade by Ozeki, the original manufacturer in Gifu, Japan and bears the Noguchi stamp of authenticity. Isamu Noguchi (1904-1988) was one of the 20th century most important and critically acclaimed sculptors. Through a lifetime of artistic experimentation, he created sculptures, gardens, furniture and lighting designs, ceramics, architecture and set designs. His work, at once subtle and bold, traditional and modern, set a new standard for the reintegration of the arts. It is in new condition and comes in it's original box. Edition signed with Noguchi Akari stamped manufacturer's mark.
