You can imagine how many hours went into producing this piece of work. The figures are sewn using a combination of metallic threads and adorned with sequins, beads and glass stones. Most Kalagas are best hung in a frame but not under glass so that the detail and texture can be fully appreciated. They can also be hung as-is without a frame. Such a large tapestry could take months to complete. Asian figural Kalaga hand embroidered with jeweled tapestry, the figures are hand embroidered and then attached to the backing. Dating to the mid-20th century, these sculptural lamps combine traditional Southeast Asian craftsmanship with the dramatic scale and theatrical elegance associated with Hollywood Regency and eclectic Mid-Century Modern interiors. The complementary figures are individually posed and detailed. One musician holds a slender flute, while his companion is depicted with hand cymbals. Each figure wears an elaborate traditional headdress and ceremonial costume, carefully carved to suggest layered textiles, jewelry and ornamental borders. The carved wood sculptures have a softly bleached antique-white finish with an intentionally aged crackled surface that gives the pair wonderful depth and character. Areas of warm gold gilding highlight the headdresses, collars, garments, cuffs and decorative borders. Small red and blue mirrored-glass insets resembling jewels are applied throughout the costumes, catching and reflecting light when the lamps are illuminated. Each musician is elevated on a simple rectangular wooden base and fitted with an adjustable brass-toned lamp rod. The present white fabric shades provide a clean, neutral counterpoint to the richly decorated figurative bases and allow the sculptural details to remain the focal point. The adjustable height makes it possible to refine the proportions or accommodate different shades if desired. With an overall height of approximately 43 inches as presently configured, these are impressively scaled statement lamps. They would be particularly effective placed symmetrically on a long console, flanking a sofa or bed, or displayed on matching side tables in a living room, library, bedroom or dramatic entry hall. Their combination of carved Thai figures, antique-white crackled wood, gold gilt decoration and colored mirror-glass accents gives them a distinctive presence in Asian-inspired, Hollywood Regency, bohemian, maximalist and sophisticated eclectic interiors. Dating to approximately 1880, these impressive sculptural horses combine folk-art character, ceremonial presence and the wonderfully imperfect surfaces that can only develop through generations of age and use. Each horse is individually carved rather than mechanically reproduced. Although closely related in scale and construction, the two are intentionally not identical. Their heads, facial expressions, harnesses, saddles, carving and surviving painted decoration differ, giving each horse a distinct personality while allowing them to work exceptionally well as a companion pair. The horses stand proudly on elongated wooden platforms fitted with substantial wheels. Their bodies are carved with pronounced saddles, bridles and harness details, while the elongated heads, alert ears and stylized features give them the expressive quality associated with traditional Indian folk sculpture. Particularly compelling are the surviving polychrome surfaces. Traces and layers of earthy red, ochre, green, brown and natural wood remain throughout, softened by approximately 140 years of oxidation, handling and wear. Rather than appearing newly restored, the horses retain a richly layered, archaeological surface with exposed wood, rubbed pigments and irregular coloration. This aged surface is one of their greatest decorative strengths. At approximately 36 inches high × 30 inches wide × 13 inches deep each, these are substantial objects—not small tabletop toys. Their scale gives them enough visual presence to function as genuine sculptural elements within an interior. Today, I would position them less as children's toys and more as large-scale Indian folk-art sculptures and collectible decorative objects. They would be exceptional displayed together in a large entrance hall, library, loft, gallery, conservatory or beneath a console, while their individual personalities also allow them to be separated and placed in different areas of an interior. Their weathered surfaces are particularly compatible with today's interest in interiors combining important antique and ethnographic objects with contemporary, wabi-sabi, Belgian, Mediterranean and Organic Modern furnishings. Against quiet plaster, limestone, aged oak or contemporary upholstery, the horses become sculptural focal points rather than simply period decorative accessories. The wheeled construction suggests a tradition of movable horse figures, but I would avoid definitively describing these examples as temple horses, parade horses, or toys made for noble children unless you have documentation supporting those specific functions. Their Indian origin, construction and late-19th-century character are strong enough without adding an uncertain story. A highly decorative and increasingly difficult-to-find companion pair of large Indian carved and polychrome wooden horses, distinguished by their imposing scale, individual carving and exceptionally evocative untouched surfaces. The horses are presented in authentic antique condition. Entirely handcrafted in brass, the vessel has a tall architectural profile. A broad conical lower body rises from a flared circular foot before narrowing dramatically at the waist and opening into a cylindrical upper section. The mouth terminates in a gently flared rim, while a pair of substantial ribbed loop handles flank the upper body and give the piece a particularly sculptural presence. The surface is richly worked using traditional metalworking techniques, including hammering, engraving, chasing and hand-etched decoration. Bands of intricate ornament extend around the vessel, incorporating scrolling arabesques, geometric motifs and medallion-like reserves containing Arabic calligraphic decoration. Rather than being applied ornament, the decoration has been worked directly into the brass surface, creating subtle variations in depth and texture that become particularly apparent as light moves across the vessel. The combination of Arabic calligraphy and arabesque ornament places the vase firmly within the broader decorative vocabulary of Islamic metalwork. Calligraphic decoration has historically played an important role throughout Islamic decorative arts, where written forms can function simultaneously as inscription and visual ornament. The vase's imposing proportions are another important feature. At 28 inches high and approximately 13 inches across its widest point, this is a substantial decorative object rather than a small tabletop vessel. Its tall, tapered silhouette makes it particularly effective displayed on a low console, substantial pedestal, architectural niche or directly on a raised plinth. The brass retains a warm, naturally aged surface with variations in color and tone that emphasize the hand-worked decoration. Areas of wear, oxidation and irregularity contribute to the character of the piece and provide an attractive contrast to the more reflective areas of brass. Dating to approximately 1920, the vessel reflects the continuing international fascination with Islamic and Moorish decorative arts during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Its combination of monumental scale, elaborate metalwork and strong architectural silhouette makes it particularly appealing within both traditional and contemporary interiors. The vase would work especially well as a statement object within a Mediterranean, Moorish, Islamic, Spanish Colonial, Orientalist or sophisticated contemporary interior, where its aged brass surface can provide warmth against limestone, plaster, dark wood or other natural materials. Condition is good and consistent with age and use. The vessel retains surface wear, patination and some dents and minor structural imperfections, as visible in the photographs. These should be considered part of the object's antique character rather than concealed through excessive restoration. A substantial example of early 20th-century Islamic decorative metalwork, combining Arabic calligraphic ornament, traditional hand-working techniques and an unusually elegant large-scale form. It emerged from the Japanese tea ceremony culture and Zen Buddhism in the 15th century and has since influenced various aspects of Japanese art, design, and everyday life. The key principles of Wabi-Sabi style include: 1) Simplicity: Wabi-Sabi embraces minimalism and simplicity. It appreciates uncluttered spaces and designs that focus on the essential elements. 2) Imperfection: Wabi-Sabi celebrates the beauty of imperfections, such as asymmetry, roughness, or irregularity. It believes that flaws and signs of age give objects character and uniqueness. 3) Natural materials: Wabi-Sabi emphasizes the use of natural materials like wood, stone, bamboo, and clay. These materials often showcase textures, grains, and colors that connect with the essence of nature. 4) Patina and wear: The concept of "wear and tear" is highly valued in Wabi-Sabi. Objects that show signs of age, weathering, or use are seen as more authentic and appealing. 5) Rustic simplicity: Wabi-Sabi design often incorporates a rustic, unpretentious feel, allowing objects and spaces to retain their raw, unadorned beauty. 6) Tranquility and solitude: Wabi-Sabi design encourages a sense of calm and tranquility, reflecting the serenity and solitude often found in nature. 7) Unconventional aesthetics: Wabi-Sabi challenges conventional notions of beauty and seeks to evoke a contemplative and introspective response from the viewer. 8) Harmony with nature: Wabi-Sabi design emphasizes the connection with the natural world and aims to bring elements of the outdoors into living spaces. In summary, Wabi-Sabi is a unique and profound approach to aesthetics that finds beauty in simplicity, imperfection, and the transience of life. It values the authenticity and naturalness of objects, encouraging people to appreciate the fleeting and ever-changing nature of existence.

Beautiful handcrafted decorative round tinned copper Mughal Indian box with lid, latch and handle. Measuring an impressive 20.5 inches in diameter, the circular tray has been worked by hand with traditional hammering and repoussé-style decoration. Concentric bands of geometric ornament frame the central elephant, creating a strong, symmetrical composition and emphasizing the craftsmanship of the metalwork. The elephant has long held an important place in the decorative traditions and symbolism of many Asian cultures, where it can be associated with strength, wisdom, longevity, protection and good fortune. Here, the animal becomes the visual centerpiece of the design, giving the tray considerably more character than a conventional geometric copper charger. The hand-worked copper bowl surface has a rich, luminous quality, with subtle variations and irregularities characteristic of individually crafted metalwork. Its polished finish catches the light beautifully while retaining the warmth and depth associated with aged copper. Originally conceived as a large decorative tray or charger, the piece is particularly versatile in a contemporary interior. The large copper bowl can be displayed flat on a large coffee table, ottoman or console, incorporated into a collection of Asian and ethnographic objects, or displayed vertically as wall art. A hook is already fitted to the reverse for hanging, making it especially effective as a sculptural wall plaque, bowl. Nepal, 20st century. Dimensions: height 88in; width 60in; depth 32in. Materials: 24K Gold Gilded, Copper Body, Acrylic Paints ( comes apart for easy shipping) From the Estate of Richard C Blum. Thousand-Armed Ushnishasitatapattra is a special form of the goddess Tara (Buddhism), a female form of the thousand-armed Avalokiteshvara. Her iconography is probably the most complex in the Tibetan Buddhist pantheon. The goddess has as many heads and legs as she has arms. One of a kind sculpture figure by Nepalese artist Shanta Kumar Shakya who specializes in making Buddhist Deities Statues. An oversized Gilt and Polychrome 1000-Armed Chenrezig figure statue. A true work of art, meticulously handcrafted with deep reverence for Tibetan Buddhist tradition, it offers a stunning depiction of Chenrezig, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, revered for his boundless empathy and loving-kindness. The statue is an impressive 88 inches, making it a striking centerpiece for any meditation space or home collection. It is cast in copper and gilded with 24K gold, creating a radiant finish that shines with divine energy. The intricate details are brought to life with vibrant acrylic paintings, showcasing Chenrezig’s 1000 arms and multiple faces, each representing his limitless compassion. Standing on a beautifully designed lotus throne, the statue is surrounded by a magnificent halo, symbolizing the spiritual radiance of Chenrezig's compassionate presence. Adorned in rich jewelry and vibrantly patterned silk robes, the Bodhisattva exudes an aura of grace and wisdom. Each hand holds powerful symbols of compassion and enlightenment: the left hand grasps a lotus, bow, and arrow, and an Empowerment Vase, while the right holds a crystal rosary, Dharmachakra (Wheel of Dharma), and is in the granting mudra. Two of his hands, positioned close to his chest, hold a wish-fulfilling gem, offering blessings to all who encounter him. With three faces atop each of his heads, including a wrathful form and a peaceful Buddha, the statue embodies Chenrezig’s dynamic ability to embrace both strength and serenity. Chenrezig, known as Avalokiteshvara, is one of the most beloved Bodhisattvas in Vajrayana Buddhism. His practice encourages the development of a calm, kind, and compassionate heart—qualities that are the foundation of the Buddhist path. Whether used in meditation or as a daily reminder, this statue will inspire you to cultivate compassion and peace in your life. Perfect for Buddhist practitioners or those seeking spiritual growth, this awe-inspiring statue makes a meaningful gift or addition to any sacred space. Embrace the blessings of Chenrezig’s infinite compassion with this timeless, handcrafted masterpiece.

19th-Century Chinese Qing Dynasty Elmwood Altar Console Table, Shanxi, 107 In.

Origin: Shanxi Province, China Period: 19th Century, Qing Dynasty Materials: Solid Elmwood (Hetao Mu) Construction: Traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery

Condition: Good antique condition with a beautiful aged patina, original surface, and wear consistent with age and use.

Keywords: Chinese altar table, Qing Dynasty furniture, Shanxi console table, elmwood console, Chinese scholar table, antique Chinese furniture, Asian console table, Ming style furniture, ruyi carving, lingzhi motif, cloud spandrels, temple altar table, handcrafted Chinese table, mortise and tenon, wabi sabi furniture, oriental console, long elmwood table, collectible Asian furniture.

Rosewood Ming style Chinese coffee table. History of Japanese lanterns: In Japan a to¯ro¯ (lantern) is a traditional lantern made of stone, wood, or metal. Like many other elements of Japanese traditional architecture, it originated in China. In Japan, to¯ro¯ were originally used only in Buddhist temples, where they lined and illuminated paths and lighted lanterns were then considered an offering. In its complete, original form the lantern represents five elements of Buddhist cosmology: Bottom touching the ground, represents chi, the earth, the next section represents sui, or water, ka or fire, is represented by the section encasing the lantern's light or flame, while fu¯ (air) and ku¯ (void or spirit) are represented by the last two sections, top-most and pointing towards the sky. Islamic brass metalwork is an intricate and beautiful form of art that originated in the Islamic world. It encompasses a wide range of decorative objects made from brass or other metals such as copper, bronze, and silver. Brass trays, in particular, are highly regarded for their craftsmanship and intricate designs. Islamic brass metalwork has a rich history that dates back to the early Islamic period, with its roots in the metalworking traditions of ancient civilizations such as the Persians, Greeks, and Romans. However, Islamic artisans developed their own unique styles and techniques, blending elements from various cultures and creating distinctive motifs that reflected Islamic aesthetics and religious beliefs. The process of creating brass trays involves several steps, each requiring specialized skills. Here is a general overview of the traditional techniques involved: 1) Design: A skilled artist or calligrapher creates the design for the brass object. Islamic brass metalwork often incorporates intricate geometric patterns, arabesques, floral motifs, and calligraphy inspired by Quranic verses or poetry. 2) Metalworking: The object is typically made from a sheet of brass or another metal. The metal is cut into the desired shape and then hammered or pressed to create the object. Traditional techniques such as repoussé (hammering from the reverse side) or chasing (hammering on the front side) may be employed to shape the metal. 3) Engraving: The surface of the metal is often decorated with intricate engravings or etchings. Skilled artisans use chisels, gravers, or other specialized tools to create fine details and elaborate patterns. 4) Filigree and Inlay: Some brass trays feature additional decorative elements such as filigree or inlay work. Filigree involves shaping thin wires of brass into delicate patterns and soldering them onto the tray's surface. Inlay work, on the other hand, involves embedding contrasting materials such as silver or copper into the brass, creating intricate designs. 5) Surface Treatment: After the main decorative work is complete, the tray may undergo surface treatments to enhance its appearance. This can include processes like polishing, buffing, or applying various chemical patinas to create an aged or oxidized effect. While this bowl has certainly witnessed the passage of time, it remains in remarkably good condition, with only minor signs of age that add character to its appearance. The patina on the brass enhances its antique allure, making it a truly authentic and captivating collectible. Arabic Calligraphy: The Arabic writing on the bowl is a work of art in itself. The calligraphy showcases the mastery of the scribe's hand, with flowing curves and intricate details that form an elegant script. The script may include Quranic verses, blessings, or poetic verses, depending on the bowl's origin and purpose. The inscriptions are not only visually striking but also carry profound meaning, making this bowl a beautiful representation of Islamic heritage. Intricate Patterns: In addition to the Arabic calligraphy, the bowl features intricate geometric patterns and motifs that further enhance its visual appeal. These patterns are a hallmark of Islamic art and reflect the mathematical precision and artistic creativity that defined Islamic craftsmanship. This antique Islamic brass bowl is not just an artifact; it's a work of art that can be proudly displayed in your home. Whether placed on a mantle, showcased in a glass cabinet, or used as a decorative centerpiece, it will undoubtedly be a conversation starter and a symbol of the enduring beauty of Islamic art. In summary, this antique Islamic brass bowl is a rare and exceptional piece of history that combines artistry, culture, and craftsmanship. Its intricate Arabic calligraphy, geometric patterns, and historical significance make it a cherished item for collectors and connoisseurs of Islamic art and heritage. Acquiring this bowl means owning a piece of the past and celebrating the enduring beauty of Islamic craftsmanship. Throughout history, Islamic brass objects have served various purposes, as decorative items for homes or religious spaces, or as gifts for special occasions. They are often prized for their intricate craftsmanship, attention to detail, and the cultural and artistic heritage they represent. It's important to note that Islamic brass metalwork encompasses a wide range of styles, techniques, and regional variations across different Islamic cultures and historical periods. Each region has its own unique artistic traditions, which have evolved over time, resulting in diverse and beautiful examples of Islamic brass metalwork.

Dimensions: Height 4 in, Diameter 7.25 in

Origin: Turkey

Period: 19th Century

Style: Islamic

Materials: Brass

Creator: Unknown

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2802/0948/files/2_dsa_3661_l_aj7u0e8jrqur5dnf_master_bg_processed_bg_processed.jpg?v=1790272306
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2802/0948/collections/1_vintage_asian_thai_gilt_bronze_statue_of_a_prince_playing_music_12_master_pnmmq2vxylhiwpmr.jpg?v=1789188033
